The San Francisco 49ers' need for pass-rush depth is rearing its head once more, and that was reflected in a new 2027 mock draft from Fox Sports' Rob Rang. He picked edge rusher Yhonzae Pierre with pick No. 24 for the 49ers, pairing the Alabama defensive star with Nick Bosa, Mykell Williams and 2026 third-round pick Romello Height.
Everyone knows that Nick Bosa is one of the NFL's elite edge rushers, but he's missed a lot of action over his career and is coming off a third torn ACL. Whether it be to complement Bosa or plan for the future, the 49ers must invest in more pass-rushers, and Pierre has both the twitch and toughness that would fit well with their current bunch.
Pierre broke out in a big way during his sophomore season at Alabama in 2025. Across 15 games, he posted 52 total tackles (39 solo, 13 assisted), 14.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks, along with a forced fumble and a pass breakup. That marked a significant jump from his freshman year, when he appeared in 11 games as a reserve linebacker and recorded six tackles with a half tackle for loss.

At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Pierre projects as a long, twitchy edge presence — the kind of athletic profile the 49ers have prioritized in recent draft classes as they've built out their pass rush around Bosa.
San Francisco's urgency to add to that room is well-documented. Bosa has battled multiple significant injuries throughout his career, Williams is recovering from his own ACL tear from 2025, and the 49ers have periodically leaned on a rotation to keep pressure on opposing quarterbacks when he's been unavailable. Adding a player like Pierre, even as a developmental piece, would give the front office insurance at a premium position while Bosa works his way back.
