A North Carolina driver faces multiple felony charges after he allegedly struck a group of cyclists, killing one person and injuring 20 others.
Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) were first called to the scene of a crash in Wake County just after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, according to local outlets WRAL, WYFF4 and ABC11.
Troopers said that a driver — later identified as 76-year-old Donald Robert Morris-Jones — was traveling on Optimist Farm Road when he struck a group of about 30 cyclists.
Morris-Jones then allegedly drove away from the scene and veered off the left side of the road before crashing into a ditch about half a mile away from the initial crash site.

One cyclist died in the initial crash and many others sustained serious injuries, troopers said. They were all taken to area hospitals for treatment.
At least 20 people were injured, seven of whom sustained serious injuries and 13 of whom had minor injuries, the outlets reported. The group is part of the Capital Cycling Club.

Authorities identified the cyclist who died in the crash as Patrick Turner, a 63-year-old from Cary, N.C., per CNN.
Video of the crash site showed law enforcement officials inspecting a stack of bikes propped up against a roadside guardrail along the road, as ambulances and a bus loaded up the injured people.
Jail records obtained by PEOPLE show that Morris-Jones has been charged with one count of driving while impaired, one count of driving left of center, one count of reckless driving, eight counts of felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death, seven counts of felony serious injury by vehicle and one count of felony death by vehicle.
Morris-Jones is being held on a $1 million bond, and he is next set to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 9, records show.
The NCSHP investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
