Hosts Nick Viall and Natalie Joy had a front-row seat to one of the bigger reality TV reveals of the year thus far — the 33-year age gap between Jorge, 60, and Vanelle, 27, on* Age of Attraction*.

"That was a scene we got to watch in real time," Nick tells ** in a joint interview with wife and cohost Natalie. "We were really excited because we knew two things: Vanelle was telling everyone on set that she was so grateful that she found her husband and that her dad would not be okay with her dating anyone over 40."

Jorge and Vanelle were among the six couples who connected without knowing each other’s ages on the Netflix dating experiment.

"We were not sure how that Promise Room would go," Nick continues, referring to the moment when couples reveal their ages after confessing their feelings. "We were as glued to [the screen] as anyone. They're fascinating individuals."

Jorge and Vanelle initially opted to continue the process, moving in together to give their relationship a shot. Their differences, however, proved to be too much. The duo called it quits after arguing over Vanelle's decision not to have sex until marriage and an off-camera altercation with a "crazy guy," which they disagreed about how to handle.

"I think there's really interesting conversations about communication and how important that is in relationships," Nick tells EW of the controversial pair. "There was a lot of mutual respect and love between the two of them, but they, obviously, had some things they had a hard time working through."

While fans will have to tune in to see how the other five age-gap couples progress, Nick and Natalie reveal that there were eight other matches that the show didn't follow.

"What was so great about this show is that there were no rules besides you can't say your age. So there was really no, like, guiding," she explains. "[It] was to date who you want to date and connect with who you want to connect with. We did have some same-age couples. And while the show was about the age differences and can these people work through that and we ended up following those six couples to Vancouver, we still did want to highlight that, like, 'Hey, this just did work in general.'"

Nick notes that briefly showing that other duos connected on the show "gave validity to the concept."

"To me, the show is about compatibility, about connections, about people falling in love," he explains. "I think the age-difference conversations add an interesting element, but we just wanted people to make connections. We got a great cast of 40 individuals who showed up sincere and grateful to meet other eligible people who were also wanting to find love. That resulted in 14 different connections. I think almost half were age differences and some were similar in age… It wasn't a gimmick, right? The connections that were made were authentic, they were real."

Next up for the five remaining couples — Andrew, 38, and Libby, 22; Leah, 41, and Chris, 26; Theresa, 54, and John, 27; Derrick, 43, and Pfeifer, 23; and Vanessa, 49, and Logan, 29 — will be meeting their loved ones, who will likely have thoughts on their age gaps.

"You can expect a lot of exciting relationships that we all can feel good about," Nick says of the ending. "What I love about the show is the realism and how realistic it is. The show demonstrates that you don't always need a wedding or even an engagement to be interested in how these couples survive or work out outside of the show. I think relationships are hard enough in 2026 to make work. Obviously, we created this bubble for these people to make these connections, but we know that things can change outside of the bubble where they fall in love."

But coming from the world of *The Bachelor* himself, Nick does tease that the ending could include someone popping the question.

"Certainly if people want to get engaged on this show, we're not going to stop that from happening," he says. "But I don't think it's required to be invested in these couples' love stories. You get some really fun and beautiful moments. [Plus] everyone loves an awkward profession of love — you have that as well, and I'm excited for people to see it all unfold."

*Age of Attraction* drops new episodes Wednesdays on Netflix.
