Katherine Jones thought she was one week away from marrying her partner of more than six years. Instead, her fiancƩ told her he no longer wanted to go through with the wedding.
The 36-year-old was left heartbroken, but with a luxury destination celebration already paid for and around 30 guests having booked flights to Italy, she made a decision her ex probably never expected.
The bride-to-be decided that the wedding would still go on.
She flew to Tuscany with her family and friends and turned the abandoned wedding into a celebration of her own.
As one of her viral TikToks put it, āPOV the groom didnāt make it to the wedding.ā
Katherine Jones was dumped a week before her wedding but still went through the planning

Katherine had spent about 18 months planning her dream wedding in Tuscany, Italy.
She and her fiancƩ had been together for six and a half years. They lived together, shared two cats, and had once described their relationship as being in a very happy place.
But about a year and a half before the wedding in July, Katherine said things began changing.
Both were running their own businesses and working long hours. At the same time, Katherine went through several difficult experiences, including what she described as a āfraudulent investorā and staff members breaking her trust.
She felt her partner was not there for her during that period.
āFor that period I felt like he wasnāt there for me and didnāt help me through it,ā she told Good Morning Britain on August 26. āI felt like I was alone.ā
She said she had previously supported him through his own difficult periods, which made the situation even harder.
The couple eventually talked about their problems and agreed to work on their relationship, with six months still left before the wedding

Katherine knew things were not exactly as they had been before, but she thought that might be part of being together for several years while both were under pressure from work.
A trip to Italy to see their wedding venue even made her feel that things were getting better. They toured the area by bike and went wine tasting, and Katherine believed they were āback on track.ā
Then her fiancƩ returned from his stag do.
āI donāt know if something happened there, but he all of a sudden turned icy cold,ā she recalled.
Things continued to deteriorate until, during dinner, he told her he did not think they should get married.
Katherine said she was āshattered.ā
She spent that night considering whether she should beg him to stay. Then she changed her mind.
āAbsolutely not, Iām not going to beg for you,ā she said.
Her former fiancƩ left for work for three days afterward, leaving Katherine with her mother and three sisters as she tried to deal with what had happened.
After Katherineās fiancĆ© dumped her, she told her guests the groom wasnāt coming, but the party was still on

The next morning, Katherine called her mother and sister. They contacted the wedding guests and told them about the breakup.
She also told them that the celebration was still happening.
With only a week left, the venue, flights, and other arrangements had already been paid for. Katherine felt there was little reason to throw everything away.
She flew to Italy with around 30 of her closest friends and family members.
Her former fiancĆ©ās family did not attend. Katherine explained that she did not have anything against them, but having them there would have reminded her of him and made the situation more painful.
The three-day celebration included a dinner, formal ceremony, and pool party.

Katherine also never picked up the wedding dress she had originally planned to wear.
Instead, she wore the white lace dress intended as her evening outfit.
Her mother and sisters gave speeches too, but they did not pretend the wedding was still normal. Instead, they celebrated Katherineās childhood, career, and the person she was.

āThey were just very much bigging me up and trying to make me feel happy,ā she explained.
And because there was now much more space at the venue, Katherine could move between tables and spend time with everyone who had come to support her.
After Katherine shared her story on TikTok, it quickly turned the heartbreak into a viral story

Katherine began documenting the unusual celebration on TikTok.
One video showed her singing along to Rayeās Where Is My Husband! Inside a church. The caption read, āPOV the groom didnāt make it to the wedding.ā
She added, āSaved from a life of boredom & divorce.ā
Another video showed her dancing to Candi Statonās Young Hearts Run Free with the caption, āPOV you dodged a divorce.ā
A third showed Katherine having her makeup done while drinking an Aperol spritz.
The caption joked, āWhen youāre getting ready for your wedding, but the saxophones keep getting louder (spoiler: the groom didnāt attend).ā

The videos collectively attracted more than 20 million views, turning Katherineās personal heartbreak into an unexpected internet story.
But she had been clear that the smiles and jokes did not mean she was unaffected.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she said, āTwo things can be true at once. I was heartbroken, and I was devastated. Iām up and down. It helps having all the support around.ā
She said there were moments when she cried, but her friends also kept making her laugh while filming the videos.
āMy friends were the best,ā she said. āI wouldnāt have gotten through it without them.ā
Despite going through the wedding party, Katherine said she is still processing what happened
Katherine has described the experience as a mix of grief, anger, laughter, and relief.
āEach day, you donāt know whatās coming,ā she said. āSome days it hits you like a ton of bricks, and youāre crying again, and some days youāre laughing your head off with your friends knowing it was the best thing for you, knowing you have dodged a bullet.ā
Her unusual wedding story has also brought unexpected attention from Italy.
The mayor of Val dāOrcia, where the celebration took place, reportedly contacted her and invited her to return.
Other people even offered her places to stay, including someone who invited her to a vineyard.
Katherine said she was considering moving to Italy.
She also looked back at her former fiancĆ©ās decision with a mixture of hurt and frustration.
āI donāt think he was wondering what he lost; I think he was wondering, āOh my God, Iām so shy, why has she done this to me?ā But why did you do that to me?ā she said.
For Katherine, the celebration did not magically erase the breakup. She was still dealing with the loss of a relationship that had lasted more than six years.
But she refused to let the cancellation of her marriage erase everything she had planned either.
āI would never allow a man to bring me completely down,ā she said. āEven if he broke my heart, Iām still going to back up the next day. Youāre never going to keep me in bed crying over a man.ā
āIf she canāt refund it anymore, then just continue the party,ā wrote one netizen
