Carly Pearce gave Max McNown’s Red Bull Jukebox Nashville crowd a surprise to remember Saturday night, joining him onstage for the first-ever live performance of their new duet, “Not Falling Out.”
The crowd erupted when Pearce walked out at The Pinnacle, turning the performance into one of the night’s biggest moments. The two artists released the song just a couple of weeks ago, on October 23, but Saturday was the first time they performed it in front of a live audience.
There was a little extra anticipation behind the performance, too. Before the show, McNown told Men’s Journal that “Not Falling Out” was the one song in his set that made him nervous. Not “I’m going to forget the words” nervous, but “We don’t have any experience doing this live together” nervous.
Carly Pearce Surprised the Crowd With Max McNown
McNown headlined the third annual Red Bull Jukebox Nashville, an interactive concert that gives fans a say in the setlist, special guests, and other moments throughout the night. The event took place at The Pinnacle on November 7, with Pearce joining the singer for the new collaboration.

“Not Falling Out” pairs McNown’s heartfelt songwriting with Pearce’s unmistakable country vocals. The romantic duet centers on two people choosing to keep building their relationship through life’s highs and lows rather than allowing difficult moments to pull them apart.
McNown co-wrote the song with Jamie Kenney, Hillary Lindsey, and Scott Harris. When he announced the collaboration, he said the track needed another voice and that Pearce brought something to it he didn’t expect. Pearce was equally enthusiastic, saying she was already a fan of McNown before they worked together.
The Nashville crowd’s reaction made it clear that fans were thrilled to see the two artists together.
I’ll have much more from my conversation with McNown soon, including what he shared about the song, his career, and the experience of putting together the Red Bull Jukebox show. Stay tuned for the full interview.
