Marvel fans can never say Jimmy Kimmel didn’t at least *try* to get them a serious scoop.
The* **Jimmy Kimmel Live* host grilled *Daredevil: Born Again** *star Charlie Cox about his potential involvement in *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* on Wednesday. Speculation surrounding Cox’s character Matt Murdock/Daredevil appearing in the film has skyrocketed following the release of first *Brand New Day *trailer earlier that day.
Kimmel started off his interrogation by asking Cox if he’d seen the trailer yet, which sees Peter Parker (Tom Holland) encounter some very familiar faces, including Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher.

“No, because it was today, right? I haven’t seen it,” Cox, who flew from New York, where *Daredevil* films, to Los Angeles for his *Kimmel* appearance, replied. “I’m sorry, I haven’t seen it.”
Kimmel called the trailer “fantastic” before cutting straight to the chase. “You’re not in it,” he said. “Are you in the movie?”
“No,” Cox replied with a smile on his face.
“You say no?” Kimmel said. “Okay.”
To which Cox then quickly clarified, “If I was in the movie, I would also say no, to be clear. But I’m not in the movie.”

The *Stardust* actor acknowledged that he “could be lying” about his casting, but then reiterated that he’s "not" in the film. “You’re saying you’re not in the movie?” Kimmel pressed, to which Cox replied, "I'm definitely not in the movie."
And he’s not lying? “I’m not lying,” he said.
Cox did note that his character made a cameo as Peter Parker’s really good lawyer in 2021's *Spider-Man: No Way Home.*

"But we don't care about the last one. That last one we saw already," Kimmel responded. "This is the one we now care about because the Punisher is in this one. Jon Bernthal, your buddy who’s your costar who is not, as far as I know, in this season of *Daredevil*."
"And now we know why he’s not!" Cox quipped. "Because he was gallivanting with Spider-Man the entire time."
Kimmel then pointed out that Matt Murdock is currently staying at the Punisher's lair on *Daredevil*, seemingly suggesting there should be at least *some* overlap between the two projects. "He sublet this place to you like people do in New York?" the host asked. Cox replied, "That’s right. But he didn’t tell us where he was, because he knew I’d want to join and have fun with him."
Unable to get a confirmation, Kimmel switched tactics and asked if Daredevil will make an appearance in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday*.
"I don’t think so," a stuttering Cox said. "I don’t know how. As far as I know, no. You're making me very nervous, Jimmy! I don't know!"
He continued, "No, as far as I know, no. I'm not in *Avengers*, but they haven't shot them yet, have they? I sit by the phone waiting with bated breath."
Cox has not been announced as one of the many stars in *Doomsday*. The film not only marks the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise, this time as big bad Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom instead of Tony Stark/Iron Man, but also includes original *X-Men* stars Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, as well as Chris Evans, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Pedro Pascal, Chris Hemsworth, and more.
*Spider-Man: Brand New Day* swings into theaters on July 31. *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2 premieres on March 24 on Disney+. Watch Cox react to the rumors in the clip above.
