President Donald Trump has once again angered his critics after he engaged in a bizarre rant about his obese friend. He even made controversial remarks about his anonymous friend, calling them “very, very heavy.”
The comments have drawn criticism from people who are struggling to manage their weight. His remarks raised concerns about his own health, as he has often been seen sleeping during his daytime meetings.
Donald Trump Invites Backlash After Comments About His Obese Friend
On Sept. 2, 2026,the White Househeld a press conference at the Rose Garden; President Trump talked about the high drug prices in the United States compared with those in Europe. As he was talking about a $2 weight-loss drug pill, he deviated from the topic and recalled his friend who is obese.
He said, “You know, a friend of mine, very, very heavy, he’s a very obese person. I said, ‘ You’re an extremely obese person.’ But he’s a brilliant guy.” He did not share his friend’s name, but mentioned that he is one of the top guys on Wall Street, adding that he is “smart as hell, but he’s got a serious weight problem.”
One day, his friend called the president to tell him that he had paid $86 for Ozempic in London, but for the same drug he would pay $1,300 in New York. Trump asked his friend if he was taking the drug to manage his weight. His friend replied, “Yeah.” Trump quipped, “I said, ‘It’s not working. You look like [expletive].’”
During the rant, he mentioned that his friend has been “begging” him not to disclose his name because it would destroy his reputation. The Commander-in-Chief had previously talked about his anonymous friend in 2025 during a press conference.
However, he had shared a slightly different version of this story. According to the clip on X, Trump called his friend “highly neurotic” and “seriously overweight.” In a May 2026 report from the Daily Beast, the 80-year-old had gained 14 pounds since his last annual health check in April 2025.

The report mentioned that Trump is “borderline obese” and has a BMI of 29.7, just under the 30.0 point that would mark him obese.
Critics Joke Trump’s Obese Comments Are About Himself
Donald Trump’s comments went viral on social media as critics started browsing the internet to find out about his mystery friend. Some claimed that the POTUS was referring to Steven Cheung, the White House Communications Director, who is on ‘fat drugs.’
But some netizens called out the 80-year-old for how he was ‘secretly’ acknowledging that he was obese. A user tweeted, “It will destroy his reputation cause no one was able to tell he was obese but me, so I can’t mention it, but his name rhymes with Ronald Dump.”
A critic asked, “What on earth does he see when he looks in the mirror? Obviously not a morbidly obese old man.” Another critic added, “The cognitive decline gets worse by the day.” A user said, “It’s himself, he’s talking about himself.”
A user said, “There was this guy I know. Bloated. Fat. Kept falling asleep at meetings. Incontinent. People were concerned he had gone bonkers.” A critic wrote, “And then he looked at me with big, beautiful tears in his eyes, and said, ‘Thank you, Sir. I’ll never touch another cheeseburger again. You’ve changed my life.’ – DJT, probably”
