MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A group that owns the rights to Elvis Presley’s musical catalog filed a new lawsuit on Friday against SUNO, an AI music generator.
In the lawsuit, plaintiffs accuse Suno of violating the “ELVIS Act” -- a Tennessee law which protects the likeness, voice and images of musicians, performers and individuals from being used to generate A-I content without consent.
Plaintiffs also accuse Suno of direct copyright infringement.
This is not the first time Suno has come under fire. As recently as last week, the company moved to dismiss a lawsuit by singer/songwriter Jason Isbell.

Suno claims that using an artist’s name to generate a specific style of music is not illegal, but that begs the question – what is the limit?
In Exhibit A-1, plaintiffs allege Elvis’s sound and copyrighted work have been used to generate the song.

Just by looking at a screenshot of the lyrics – it’s clear to see lyrics are directly pulled from multiple Elvis songs, including “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
Elvis Presley’s music owners sue AI company Anthropic over copyright
The group also claims Anthropic used some of Elvis’s most famous musical works, including “All Shook Up,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” to train its AI agent Claude without the owners’ permission.
“We’re suing for copyright infringement at it’s basic core,” said lead counsel for the plaintiffs, Richard Busch. “They’re the most iconic songs ever written or among the most iconic songs ever written.”
WREG has reached out to Suno for comment.
If the plaintiffs win the lawsuit, it could have far-reaching impacts on AI content regulation in the future.
