Emmy-winning former TV anchor Kellie DeMarco responded to her husband getting kicked out of his courtside seat at the Los Angeles Lakers-Sacramento Kings game on Saturday, three days after he was bizarrely booted for passing the ball back to the ref.
If you’re thinking he must’ve done something more than that to warrant getting removed, you’d be wrong. DeMarco’s husband — whom she has only identified by the name “Duncan” in previous posts — went viral on Wednesday when the ball went out of bounds and ended up in his hands; he immediately gave a chest pass to referee Chelisa Painter, who was standing about five feet away. But she apparently felt he put too much zip on it, and so did Lakers star Luka Doncic, who looked over in disgust at the man.
Duncan put up his hands as if to say “I didn’t mean any harm,” but his protest fell on deaf ears, because security came and yanked him from his seat. You can check it out below:
On Saturday, DeMarco jumped on Instagram and said it was all a big misunderstanding.

She posted:
Yes, this is my sweet husband, and yes, he’s the guy who got ejected from an NBA game. I spent nearly 20 years in TV news, and he’s getting more airtime than me!
He played basketball for years, and apparently the chest pass muscle memory never left. He meant no harm, he feels terrible that it came across the wrong way, and he has nothing but respect for the officials.
Thank you for all the kind messages. We love the Kings and this community.
And no, he is not Steve Kerr, I’ve read the comments.
DeMarco added the caption to a selfie of her and her husband at the game, before he was told to hit the showers. “When date night goes viral,” she added to the pic.
Ironically, Doncic got a technical foul during LA’s Friday night game when he agitatedly tossed the ball at a ref, who also thought he did it with too much speed.
DeMarco won three Emmys during her 20 year career, which included jobs in Denver and Sacramento. She now runs her own communications business, after leaving TV news in 2019.
