A woman shared an account of her recent visit to Erewhon’s Culver City store in California. Janiya (@niyy_3.0) shared a video on TikTok, in which she said, “Let me tell y’all about this discrimination and racism I just experienced at Erewhon.”
The woman also alleged that a guard at Erewhon made a racist comment. “See, man, it’s always them,” the guard allegedly said, according to the video the TikToker shared.
In the video, the shopper says she ordered three smoothies at the kiosk, then two hot plates and one side of French toast. After ordering a few more items, the woman checked out and said she paid $125.86.

The woman also shared a photo of her meal, the smoothies, ginger shots, and the hot plate, and she also shared the receipt for her purchases.
The woman added that the cashier also complimented her on her outfit. In the video, she said she ate outside and threw the receipt away after she was almost done eating. The TikToker shared in her video how a request for an extra bag escalated.
Woman Recounts Confrontation over the receipt
When she went inside the store to get a carry bag, the store employees insisted she couldn’t get one because the hot plate didn’t have tags. When the shopper pressed, asking why she couldn’t get a bag, she was asked, “Do you have a receipt?”
The TikToker added that she finally got a bag when she dug a receipt out of the trash and showed it to the guard.

Shopper says she had to prove her purchase to the employees
She also said the guard helped her pack the items in the bag. However, he later claimed some of the items did not belong to her, implying she had taken them without paying.
“I came out of the restroom. The same security guard who stopped me and helped me put my items in the bag tells me that those are not my items; the hot plates are not my items,” Janiya continued in her video.
“He then proceeds to show me a small receipt with just three smoothies on it and says that receipt is mine after I showed him my receipt that I had already dug in the garbage to get,” the TikToker added.
Woman says manager reviewed receipt before letting her leave
After the manager scanned the receipt again, they let her leave. She added, “I forgot to mention that the security guard said to the store manager, ‘See, man, it’s always them’.” The TikToker added, “It’s mind-boggling that this s*** still goes on.”
The TikToker concluded the video by saying she won’t be visiting the store again, and she also name-checked the store manager at the end. “I won’t be back. Erewhon won’t be getting any of my money,” the woman said.
