George Clooney’s Kids Have Him Rethinking His Life Behind the Camera

George Clooney‘s twins are shaping the actor’s next chapter in Hollywood, and it does not involve returning to the director’s chair anytime soon. During a candid moment at the Venice Film Festival, the veteran star opened up about the major shift in his priorities, which has little to do with box office numbers and everything to do with his family.

At 65, Clooney was in Venice to accept the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival. Speaking with reporters ahead of the ceremony, Clooney made it clear that stepping back from directing is not tied to any bad experience on set.
“I’ve had great experiences,” said the actor, as reported by People. “I’ve been nominated for an Oscar, and I’ve also had really bad experiences, and that’s okay. That’s part of me telling stories. People will agree and disagree,” he added.
He went on to reflect on how audiences’ reactions to his work have shifted over the years. “I’ve done films that people hated when they came out, and now they like them,” he said. “I’ve done films that people liked that now they look at it and they don’t work anymore. Timing is a lot of that.”
However, according to the “Ocean’s Eleven” star, the real reason he is stepping away from the director’s chair comes down to his children with wife Amal Clooney. The couple has twins, Alexander and Ella, both 9. The children have become his top priority, he explained, since directing demands a level of commitment that acting does not.

“The only reason I’m not directing, which I love doing, is because I had two 9-year-old kids and in order for me to spend time with them,” said Clooney. “If I act in a movie, it’s three months, and I can go and come and go and come back. When you direct a movie, it’s a year wherever you are, and there’s no traveling back and forth. So I can’t do that anymore.”
Clooney’s comments at his Venice Film Festival appearance echo remarks that he has made previously about wanting to be present for his children while they are still young.
His directing resume includes 2005’s “Good Night, and Good Luck,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. He remains active as an actor, with new projects expected in the coming months.
