Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt are figuring things out after their breakup

A source tells PEOPLE they're "not getting along right now" but are "trying to work through" co-parenting

The pair, who share a 5-month-old daughter, were first romantically linked in March 2025

Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt are navigating their breakup while figuring out how best to co-parent.

The pair would eventually "like to be friends" after their breakup, a source tells PEOPLE, but it's "difficult to think about getting to that place right now."

"They're not getting along right now," the source adds of Davidson, 32, and Hewitt, 30. "They were already struggling a bit while Elsie was pregnant. Things just happened so quickly between them and they didn't know each other very well."

Davidson and Hewitt are now "trying to work through" how they'll "be able to co-parent," the source says.

They share daughter Scottie Rose, who was born in December 2025. "She's not fighting Pete on seeing the baby, but it's not smooth sailing," the source says. "Ultimately they'd like to be friends and do things together, but it's difficult to think about getting to that place right now."

They add, "He's a softie and he does want to be with the woman he has a child with. It's not totally out of the question. The split was mutual."

Another insider told PEOPLE earlier on Friday, May 15, that the duo called it quits but were still "working on things" together and "want one another to succeed and be happy.” They said the couple's relationship has had its ups and downs and that it's not clear if they will reunite again.

The pair were first romantically linked in March 2025 and announced in July 2025 that they were expecting a child together. Scottie Rose was named after Davidson's late father, Scott Matthew Davidson.

Davidson has been open about life as a new father, telling PEOPLE in March while promoting his Crocs campaign that "Dad life is f---ing awesome."

“It is exhausting and rewarding and cute," he said. "And I'm very lucky because Elsie is a fantastic mom, and I can't stress enough how lucky I am.”

The parents have shared glimpses of their daughter on social media since her birth, with Hewitt marked Scottie turning 12 weeks old on March 6. “my scottie girl is 12 weeks old today. on the way to the hospital we wrote down our predictions for what time she'd be born,” Hewitt wrote. “my guess was 3:05pm (my birthday, 03/05). after 23 hours of labor, that is the exact time she arrived. how crazy and cool is that.”
