Jimmy Kimmel has offered an optimistic forecast regarding America's trajectory following the Trump era.
During his recognition in the entertainment category at the 86th annual Peabody Awards, Kimmel and his long-serving co-star, Guillermo Rodriguez, engaged in a discussion covering Jimmy Kimmel Live!, American politics, and the post-Trump landscape.
Reflecting on what lies ahead, an upbeat Kimmel shared with attendees in a frank video, "I think that it's funny when I look back and think about the things I was worried about 10 years ago, 15 years ago; they seem silly now." "And hopefully, if we're not worrying about democracy itself, in 5 years I'll be able to look back and go, 'Oh yeah, we got it good right now,'" he continued, reports the Mirror US.
Kimmel received his award almost one year following his suspension stemming from remarks he delivered about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

During an opening segment of his program, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host quipped, "The MAGA Gang is desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

He additionally ridiculed Donald Trump's shallow reaction to Kirk's death, drawing parallels between his swift transition to White House ballroom construction and a child grieving a goldfish. Kimmel faced suspension from September 17 to September 22, with ABC receiving swift criticism from viewers who referenced freedom of speech and censorship concerns.
However, following a six-day suspension, Disney, ABC's parent company, brought Kimmel and his program back. Upon returning, he presented an emotional, 16-minute monologue.
Kimmel grew emotional while discussing the controversy surrounding his comments about Charlie Kirk's murder. He acknowledged that his initial remarks were "ill-timed" and explained that "it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man."
He further described the shooter as a "deeply disturbed person," rejected accusations of blaming any political group, and commended Erika Kirk's forgiveness of the killer as a "selfless act of grace."
Nevertheless, he criticized the political pressure that resulted in his suspension. He specifically called out FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and President Donald Trump regarding attempts to force late-night hosts off the air, declaring that "a government threat to silence a comedian the president doesn't like is anti-American."
Kimmel subsequently thanked those who supported him and expressed gratitude to The Walt Disney Company for his reinstatement. He also made light of Disney and viewer boycotts by humorously displaying a paper titled "How to reactivate your Disney+ subscription" that he joked was required by executives.
