Kate Middleton could have a family member by her side if she becomes Queen, according to former royal butler Grant Harrold. As Princess Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton turns 43, Harrold has suggested she could one day support her sister as an official royal companion.

Pippa Middleton celebrates her 43rd birthday on Sunday, September 6, and the close-knit Middleton family will likely mark it privately. Although Pippa has largely avoided the royal spotlight, Harrold believes that could change if Prince William becomes King and Kate becomes Queen.
The former Highgrove House butler, who worked for King Charles, praised the Middleton family for keeping their lives relatively private. He also compared Pippa to Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot. Harrold believes Pippa could eventually give Kate the same support Elliot provides to Camilla. “In the future, I wouldn’t rule out Pippa becoming one of Kate’s companions,” Harrold shares with Marie Claire. “Like what Queen Camilla is doing right now with her sister.”
Queen Elizabeth II traditionally relied on ladies-in-waiting, but Camilla chose a different approach after becoming Queen. Instead of following the traditional system, she chose close friends and her sister to support her in a more modern role. They became known as her “companions.” Harrold believes Kate could eventually adopt a similar arrangement.

If the Princess of Wales decides to introduce official companions when she becomes Queen, Pippa could be a natural candidate because of their close family relationship and her understanding of life around the royal family. Harrold believes Pippa’s ability to remain out of the spotlight could make her particularly suited to such a position.
“Pippa does her own thing,” Harrold shares. “She keeps herself very low key, and I think she does a really good job of it.” He also praised the Middleton family for supporting Kate and William without seeking attention for themselves. The former royal butler said the family provides “strong support from the background” while respecting royal traditions and maintaining their privacy.
