Matilda Djerf is opening up about the emotional toll her ectopic pregnancy and ensuing fallopian tube-removal surgery had on her six years ago

The content creator and Djerf Avenue founder reflected on the incident exactly six years after her procedure in a July 14 Instagram post

“Every year on July 14th, I think back to that day in 2020,” she wrote

Matilda Djerf shared an emotional essay on Instagram, reflecting on the aftermath of an ectopic pregnancy that she experienced six years ago.In the caption of a July 14 Instagram post, Djerf shared screenshots of an essay she had written for a project in 2024 about the experience. In her caption, she provided context for the story.“Six years ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy,” she wrote. “Every year on July 14th, I think back to that day in 2020. I feel so much gratitude for the care I received, sadness for everything I went through, and frustration that we don’t talk about reproductive health enough.”

In the attached screenshots of the essay she wrote, Djerf recounted the moment she found out that she was pregnant, and the moment that she learned it was ectopic — which means that a pregnancy is growing outside the uterus in her fallopian tube. After her pain became too much to bear, her then-boyfriend, now fiancé Rasmus encouraged her to go to the hospital.

Djerf was rushed into surgery and, because the incident had occurred during COVID, Rasmus was unable to accompany her. “I begged the nurse not to leave,” she wrote in the slideshow. After the surgery, during which her fallopian tube was removed, Djerf wrote that she immediately called for Rasmus.

“I had never needed him as much as I needed him then,” she said. “I was lying alone in my hospital room with three new scars across my stomach and one less fallopian tube.”

Djerf also shared snapshots from the time, including glimpses of her scars on her stomach and her recovery process.“I didn’t know what an ectopic pregnancy was when I was going through it,” she added in the caption. “So once I felt strong enough, I made myself a promise to continue sharing my story as the years go by to help raise awareness of what an ectopic pregnancy is.”She added that sharing her story had helped her to connect with others who had gone through similar things.“I’ve received so many heartbreaking but incredibly important messages from people who have gone through the same experience,” she said. “Through those connections, I’ve found strength, and because of that, I truly believe my healing journey has continued and will continue. ❤️”Djerf is known for her popular clothing and lifestyle brand Djerf Avenue, as well as her aesthetic lifestyle social media content. She announced her engagement to Rasmus on July 30.
