- Noah Wyle is weighing in on the fate of baby Jane Doe after the climactic season 2 finale of *The Pitt.*

- Wyle's haunted Dr. Robby delivers a surprisingly vulnerable monologue to the abandoned infant on the episode, leading some fans to speculate that he may adopt the child.

- "I don't think she's going to go home with Robby, everybody," Wyle revealed on the *A Lot More *podcast. "I don't think that would be good for either one of them."

Noah Wyle knows as much as the rest of us about what will become of baby Jane Doe when *The Pitt** *returns for season 3 — which is to say, nothing. But he does have some ideas.

Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch himself appeared on Warner Bros. Television's *A Lot More* podcast on Tuesday for a wide-ranging discussion on the hit medical drama. Wyle described the troubled attending physician he's now portrayed for two seasons on the HBO series as in "the darkest, darkest" frame of mind throughout season 2, which concluded in April.

"He didn't know that he filled his compartments to capacity and that this was going to be a breaking point day" in season 1, and in season 2, "There's been this increasing sense of disassociation building, and an inability to stay in this work and not have this work continually add to the problem."

Enter baby Jane Doe — an abandoned infant Katherine LaNasa's charge nurse Dana Evans rescues early in season 2, who becomes a fixture of the chaotic emergency room setting. The season ended with Dr. Robby "giving this advice to this innocent, you know, another abandoned soul in this room that's totally loaded with emotion and memory," leading some to think he may be the one to adopt the wayward lamb. But Wyle thinks not.

"I don't think she's going to go home with Robby, everybody. I don't think that would be good for either one of them," he said. "However, I do think she's going to get placed in a good home, and I do believe that our staff is going to keep tabs on her."

In fact, from a narrative standpoint (Wyle is an executive producer on the series, so does have some say over how stories play out within and across seasons), the actor believes "we have to understand what happened to that baby."

Wyle explains that the season 2 finale scene in which Dr. Robby pours out his fears and hopes to the infant represents "the first time we've seen him entertain the possibility that he might have a healthy prognosis. I think a baby will do that to a lot of people." That doesn't mean Robby is likelier to keep it. "Ladies and gentlemen, a baby is not a life preserver. You don't throw a drowning man a baby."

Season 2 ended not just with a cliffhanger for Dr. Robby and baby Jane Doe, but for Supriya Ganesh's Dr. Samira Mohan, who was caught in her own downward mental health spiral throughout the season.

Fans were disappointed, but per Mohan's storyline, not altogether surprised to hear that Ganesh will not be returning for season 3. But when one door closes, another opens: Ayesha Harris's recurring character, night-shift doctor Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular in season 3.
