NXT Champion Grayson Waller has made it clear that CM Punk doesn’t intimidate him on the microphone. After their recent backstage confrontation at an NXT live event, Waller has explained why a future verbal showdown with Punk is exactly the challenge he wants.

Waller admitted that he was once a major Punk fan, particularly because of the WWE star’s willingness to speak his mind and upset people. However, his view changed after becoming a wrestler himself.

The NXT Champion was critical of younger talent fawning over Punk during his recent NXT appearance. Waller said the best way to show respect to Punk was to challenge him rather than treat him like a guest at a meet-and-greet.

“I did exactly that, and I’m going to get him one day,” Waller said during his recent appearance on Busted Open After Dark. “He’s going to be there standing across from me, and I’ll tell him what I really think.”

Grayson Waller wants to test himself against CM Punk

Waller has no hesitation about the possibility of sharing a microphone with Punk. In fact, he considers it a major personal goal.

“100%. That doesn’t scare me a bit,” Waller said. “I want to stand across from the best talker of all time, and I want to test myself.”

That confidence extends beyond simply believing he can keep pace with Punk. Waller also wants to bring back what he considers the former world champion’s more confrontational side.

“Punk is very good, very sharp, and very intelligent, but he’s softened a bit,” Waller claimed. “I want the old CM Punk.”

Waller pointed to CM Punk’s current position as champion and his success as reasons he believes Punk may no longer have the same edge. He argued that someone willing to come directly after him could reignite that hunger.

The NXT Champion also dismissed the idea that Punk’s reputation should make younger wrestlers hesitant, saying, “I ain’t scared of no one.”

For Waller, the microphone battle isn’t simply another potential WWE segment. He sees it as the ultimate test — and he appears more than ready to talk the talk if Punk eventually steps up.
