A new docuseries is revisiting the theory that O.J. Simpson may have had help in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.
Peacock’s two-part OJ’s Accomplice, which premiered on Sunday, November 1, explores whether O.J. acted alone.
The Docuseries Focuses on Joey Ippolito
The series examines claims involving Joey Ippolito, a convicted drug trafficker with ties to the mob who was a friend of O.J.’s and who died in 2006. Joey also worked as a secret informant for federal authorities while he was seeking favorable treatment in unrelated criminal cases, and newly unsealed records reportedly described him as “extremely reliable.” A story that rapper Fat Joe once told on a podcast about an alleged accomplice of O.J.’s has also been credited with bolstering suspicions about Joey.
Joey’s brother, Sam Ippolito, claimed in October that Joey left the Los Angeles apartment where they were staying around 6 p.m. on the night of the murders to help a friend and returned around midnight with what appeared to be blood on his hands. Sam said Joey asked him to get rid of a bag containing a heavy object, and he claimed he threw it into a construction site dumpster on Doheny Drive without looking inside.
Sam Later Tried to Take Back His Story
Sam also said he overheard Joey on the phone with Al Cowlings, O.J.’s longtime friend who drove the white Ford Bronco during the infamous police chase, talking about “helping” O.J. that night. However, Sam later tried to retract his account after a reporter declined his request for compensation, saying he could no longer reliably recall what happened. Sam also said he “was offered a ton of money” to tell his story elsewhere, apparently for an upcoming documentary.
Sam is the only one to describe Joey’s actions that night, and neither brother was ever called to testify during O.J.’s trial. Sam’s account is featured in the docuseries, which also includes a recorded conversation in which Charlie Ehrlich, a friend of Joey’s brother and of O.J., claimed that Joey’s brother told him Joey had admitted involvement in the murders. Co-director Ari Mark has said he believes Ehrlich knew the cameras were still rolling.

Key Figures From the Case Appear in the Series
OJ’s Accomplice, which Mark directed alongside Sumit David, was originally set to premiere in December. The show includes interviews with O.J.’s defense investigator Pat McKenna, lead detective Tom Lange, DEA agent Robert Brisolari, members of O.J.’s defense team, a former roommate of Cowlings, Kato Kaelin, who was staying in O.J.’s guesthouse at the time of the murders, Nicole’s sister Tanya Brown, and a newly identified eyewitness.
Not everyone connected to the case agrees with the accomplice theory. Lange has expressed doubt about the theory, and one of O.J.’s former attorneys has also spoken out against making too many assumptions based on the new accusations.
O.J. Was Acquitted in 1995
Nicole and Goldman were stabbed to death outside her Brentwood, Calif., home on Sunday, June 12, 1994, and the murder weapon was never recovered. O.J. was acquitted of both murders in 1995 after a televised trial that was dubbed the “Trial of the Century,” and his defense team included attorneys Johnnie Cochran and Robert Shapiro.
In 1997, a civil jury found O.J. liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families. O.J. died of prostate cancer in April 2024 at 76, and he always denied killing Nicole and Goldman.
