- *Off Campus *star Belmont Cameli reflects on Garrett's journey, from the most underrated Hannah-Garrett scene to the hockey captain's "breaking point."

**This article contains spoilers from season 1 of *Off Campus*.**

Belmont Cameli will be the first to tell you that Garrett Graham is a good guy. He wouldn't have played him otherwise.

"I wouldn't have done this if he was just like the big man on campus, classic stereotypical television jock," Cameli tells * *of his leading role on* **Off Campus*. "That's a fun way to introduce him so that we can subvert that expectation, but that's not who he is at all. That's what I loved about Garrett."

But playing a good guy was only one piece of the puzzle for Cameli. After a hockey bootcamp with his costars helped them bond, it was during the filming of episode 1 that the actor remembers something clicking. "The block party scene was the first big event on production," he says. "That was a real treat. You're looking around, and it's the full ensemble at the block party. It felt like a special thing, like a lightning-in-the-bottle situation."

That feeling persisted throughout all of filming, including one particular Garrett-Hannah (Ella Bright) moment that Cameli believes is underrated.

"I love the quiet scene of them driving after karaoke," he says. "We're really keying in on the audio of the silence, the turn signal, the air conditioning, the awkwardness of that moment because there's something very internal happening with both of them in the way that they're feeling about each other. I loved that scene in the car. Obviously, Mika [Abdalla] was in the backseat while we were filming it because she springs up. And between takes, we were blasting music and having fun. But that's just such a good moment of tension. That's a big underrated one for me, because there's nothing said, but there's a lot happening."

But not all of Garrett's big moments are so quiet. When looking at the hockey captain's journey as a whole, it's impossible not to talk about episode 7. After Garrett comes face-to-face with the man who raped Hannah, he loses his cool on the ice, jeopardizing his future and ... making his father proud?

"That's a real breaking point for him," Cameli says. "Obviously, afterwards, there's the scene with him and Hannah where they basically end things. And before that, he's in an emotional place and [at] a complete loss of control, which for Garrett is the most terrifying thing that can happen. He's constantly working to keep control all the time. I think the real key to that scene is that Phil Graham tells him that he's proud of him, not for any reason beyond that he beat the s--- out of a guy. And of course, that is emblematic of all the things Garrett is fearful of becoming and resents in his father."

Thankfully, it's a moment that Garrett gets through as he finds his way back to Hannah in the season finale. As for that lightning-in-a-bottle feeling? It's exploded into a whirlwind press tour for Cameli, who's barely had time to reflect. "Right now it's all happening around me, and I'm just doing my best to stay present," he says. "In my alone time, I haven't even gotten to the point of reflection yet."

And he won't anytime soon, as he heads back to Vancouver to start work on season 2 this month. "We will be rolling camera very soon," he says.

But, "at some point," he adds, "I'm gonna whip that journal out and really sort out how I'm feeling."

*Off Campus* is streaming now on Prime Video.
