Itās been several years since Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter were rumored to be part of a love triangle ā but any suspected rivalry is all water under the bridge for the two pop stars.
āI think sheās great. Iām so happy for all of her success too. I love the album sheās put out,ā Rodrigo, 23, said on the new cover of British Vogue. āItās all love, though. Iāve talked to her many times.ā
Rodrigo is thought to have written her breakthrough 2021 single āDrivers Licenseā about her costar Joshua Bassett ā and when he was later spotted with Carpenter, fans wondered if she was āthat blonde girlā mentioned in the lyrics as a source of insecurity for Rodrigo.

Carpenter, 26, later released the song āSkin,ā which fans speculated was a response to āDrivers License.ā The song included the lyrics, āMaybe you didnāt mean it/Maybe blonde was the only rhyme,ā and āI wish you knew that even you canāt get under my skin if I donāt let you in.ā
In the years since, Rodrigo and Carpenter have been seen chatting at events and award shows, and even shared a hug at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Rodrigo reflected on her teenage years, when the drama with Carpenter peaked, to British Vogue, saying she looks at teenagers now and sees just how young they actually are.
āSometimes I meet a 17 or an 18-year-old nowadays and Iām like, āWow, you are such a baby.ā I canāt believe people were that mean to me,ā she said. āI was going through a breakup, working a full-time job, making [Sour], a student in high school and taking, like, three AP classes. Looking back, I always think, āWow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17.āā

The Grammy winner is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated third album, which has yet to get a release date or title. It follows her second album Guts, which topped the charts upon its release in 2023.
āIt was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place,ā she said. āWhen youāre experiencing that youāre connected to someone, or feeling really good, youāre not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!ā
Carpenter, meanwhile, has also forged a successful career in pop music. She released her breakthrough sixth album Short nā Sweet in 2024, and followed the record with Manās Best Friend last year.
