"It’s clear people want something new. They want something different. I’m talking, of course, about SNL’s cold opens. How many of these Trump freezers are they going to do?"
Talarico argued that viewers were looking for something new and different. The senator revealed that he was actually referring to SNL's cold opens. He meant that the formula of showing the president had become repetitive.
The joke was also aimed at SNL's writing style. The punchline landed after Johnson's Trump responded with a single-word answer:
"Infinity!"
Johnson implied that SNL had no plans to stop using the format anytime soon.
According to Variety,Talarico's appearance came only days after he won the Texas Senate race with 55.09% of the vote, defeating Ken Paxton and flipping the seat to the Democrats.
The victory marked the first time since 1988 that Texas elected a Democratic senator. His win was also part of the broader blue tsunami that helped Democrats secure control of both the House and the Senate while also gaining a majority of governorships across the nation.
