- *The Batman Part II* director Matt Reeves confirmed the movie's main cast in a series of social media posts.

- He named a number of returning players from the first movie, as well as newcomers.

- The sequel, in theaters in 2027, will star Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Johansson, along with some DC veterans.

After some early reports, director Matt Reeves has officially confirmed the cast for *The Batman Part II*.

Those who've followed Reeves on social media know that GIFs are among his preferred methods for teasing the stars of his movies. Starting Wednesday, the filmmaker began posting a series of social media blasts to confirm the returning vets from 2022's *The Batman,* as well as its sequel's newcomers.

** previously reported that two Marvel alumni, Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, were circling roles. Stan was even featured in an Instagram video amid his training for the role of Harvey Dent, the future Batman baddie Two-Face.

Now, the Winter Soldier actor is officially confirmed to be on board. Reeves captioned a GIF of the actor: "In a Gotham state of mind... Welcome."

The filmmaker officially confirmed Johansson's casting in an earlier post on Thursday, captioning a GIF of the actress driving at night, "Next exit, Gotham... Welcome."

Later in the afternoon, Reeves revealed yet another casting: *Game of Thrones' *actor Charles Dance, rumored to be playing Harvey Dent's dad, Christopher Dent. He captioned a GIF of the actor appearing out of the shadows: "Out of the shadows... Welcome."

German actor Sebastian Koch and *Eternals *star Brian Tyree Henry also received official announcements. "Locked and loaded for Gotham...," Reeves captioned a GIF of Koch pointing a gun.

"Welcome to the party, man...," the director wrote in a separate post featuring a GIF of Henry appearing to go in for a hug with someone off camera on a rare sunny day.

Rejoining Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman are Jeffrey Wright as Gotham PD's Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Bruce's butler/father figure Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/the Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Gotham City Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. Reeves confirmed the castings through individual posts on X/Twitter.

Some likened the reveals to the rollout for *Avengers: Doomsday*, when Marvel unveiled the first cast members for the film with close-ups of individual chairs labeled with the actors' names. But this is a very Reeves move, coming with individually wrapped notes for each star.

*The Batman Part II* is set for release on Oct. 1, 2027. Reeves has been giving hints about the story through interviews and on social media.

Earlier this month, he posted test shots of the Batmobile driving through a snowy setting. The caption read, "#SnowTires." This was followed by another test shot of an explosion and the note, "Just over here having a little fun…"

Reeves wrote the sequel's script with fellow scribe Mattson Tomlin (*Terminator: Zero*), and the director has already teased that the prime villain has "never really been done in a movie before."

Story details are still trickling in, but the creative team also confirmed that HBO's drama *The Penguin* acts as "the bridge between" *The Batman* and *The Batman Part II, *with showrunner Lauren LeFranc telling EW, "We're going almost directly into the second film Matt has planned."

As for the cliffhanger of the season 1 finale of *The Penguin*, Reeves said, "We're kind of flicking you at the end to say the story's not over. The idea that Oz and these characters could be on a collision course at some point with Batman, that's of course out there. So we wanted to leave you with a sense of that, without overshadowing that this is really the completion of the story."
