Snoop Dogg’s legendary career is getting the big-screen treatment.
In November 2022, the rapper announced that he would produce a biopic about his life, which has since been titled Snoop. The film will be the first project from Universal Pictures’ partnership with Snoop’s production company, Death Row Pictures — an offshoot of Death Row Records, the iconic label he acquired earlier that year.
“Snoop Dogg’s life and legacy make him one of the most exciting and influential icons in popular culture,” Donna Langley, chair of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement at the time, adding that they feel “humbled to be able to create the lasting document of this singular artist.”
Filmmaker Craig Brewer, best known for Song Sung Blue, will direct the film based on his rewrite of a screenplay written by Joe Robert Cole, who co-wrote the Marvel films Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Updates on Snoop were scarce for years after the initial announcement. That changed in June 2025, when Jonathan Daviss was cast as the rapper. The highly anticipated biopic is slated to premiere on Aug. 6, 2027, per Deadline.

Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg in the rapper’s biopic, but landing the role was a lengthy process. The actor auditioned for a few months before Snoop ultimately chose him to tell his story.
“My favorite thing about that process was how hands-on [Snoop Dogg] was. In between my auditions, he allowed me to come hang out with him,” Daviss told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2026. “Usually when you’re doing a biopic about somebody else’s life, the subject is not there. ... So I have an interesting opportunity to portray somebody who’s still living.”
Daviss is best known for starring in Netflix’s Outer Banks.

Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre

Myles Bullock was cast as Dr. Dre in August 2026. Dr. Dre played a pivotal role in Snoop Dogg’s life and career, helping launch him to stardom after bringing him into the Death Row Records fold and featuring him on his 1992 solo debut, The Chronic. The following year, Dr. Dre produced Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle.
“LA Kid playing an LA Legend,” the actor wrote on Instagram alongside the casting news, adding, “let’s get it!”
Bullock has appeared in Hulu’s Runaways and Peacock’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.

Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur

Camron Jones will portray Tupac Shakur — Snoop Dogg’s close friend, Death Row Records labelmate and musical collaborator.
“God is good! Words can’t express how grateful I am & what an honor it is,” Jones, who is best known for starring in Prime Video’s Panic, wrote on Instagram after his casting was announced in late August 2026.

Lauren London as Beverly Tate

Playing Snoop Dogg’s mother, Beverly Tate, is actress Lauren London.
A church choir director, Tate had a major influence on her son — and even inspired his famous nickname. Born Calvin Broadus Jr., Snoop loved watching Peanuts as a child, and his mother began calling him “Snoopy” because she thought he resembled the beloved cartoon dog, according to Esquire.

Laya DeLeon Hayes as Shante Broadus

Laya DeLeon Hayes is set to play Snoop Dogg’s wife, Shante Broadus. The couple met as teenagers while attending Long Beach Polytechnic High School and married in 1997. They share three children.
Following her casting announcement in late August 2026, Hayes celebrated the news on Instagram, writing, “Dream come true. Beyond honored to bring this story to life.”

Tre Hale as Suge Knight

Tre Hale will play Suge Knight, who co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre. Once close, Knight and Snoop fell out before the rapper left the label in the late ’90s, according to Billboard. Though they later reconciled, tensions resurfaced after Knight was imprisoned and Snoop acquired Death Row in 2022.
In an August 2026 Instagram post, Hale — who is known for his role on Netflix’s Nemesis — thanked Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures for the “incredible responsibility” to play Knight.

Algee Smith as Warren G

Algee Smith was cast as Warren G. As teenagers, Snoop, Warren G and Nate Dogg formed the hip-hop trio 213, recording demos together in Long Beach. Warren G, Dr. Dre’s stepbrother, ultimately helped get one of their tapes into Dre’s hands, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Corey Champagne will portray Nate Dogg, Snoop’s cousin and a member of the hip-hop trio 213, named after Long Beach’s area code at the time.
“My goal is not to just embody ‘Nate Dogg,’ the King of Hooks and G-Funk icon, but Nathaniel Dwayne Hale. The man. The son. The father. And, in the context of this story, the friend,” Champagne wrote on Instagram in August 2026 about the rapper who died in 2011.
