The actress has previously opened up about her desire to become a mom and start a family with Blanco, 38. Last October, Gomez posted an Instagram Story celebrating her role on the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

“Alex Russo is a mommy 🥹,” she wrote, referring to her character. “Hopefully one day that’ll be me.” She included a clip from her final episode on the Disney+ series.

In a March episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast, Gomez and Blanco said that they can’t wait to start a family together. The couple tied the knot on Sept. 27 in Montecito, Calif.

“I don’t know what will happen, obviously, but I love children,” Gomez said. “I love making [children] laugh; they’re just so sweet. So absolutely, when that day comes, I’m so excited for it.”

Blanco chimed in to add that when Gomez sees children, she will “immediately go to the kids and has these conversations for hours with the kids.”

“When you started doing this you were a kid and that was your way to connect to people and I feel like you still feel like you have that obligation to connect with young kids,” he pointed out. “You shaped so many young people’s lives, whether it was Barney, Wizards [of Waverly Place]... you’re still finding your way to do that.”

In September 2024, the Rare artist spoke with Vanity Fair for the outlet’s October issue and explained that she’s unable to carry her children, saying that the fact was something she “had to grieve.”

“I haven’t ever said this...but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while…”

Gomez has previously spoken about suffering from complications with lupus, which she was diagnosed with in 2015. She also revealed her bipolar diagnosis in April 2020 during an episode of Miley Cyrus‘ Instagram Live show Bright Minded.

She added, “[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”

“It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” she continued. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
