President Donald Trump said he will implement a "few changes" in his administration, hinting at yet another wave of firings in the White House.

During an interview with 60 Minutes, the president, who just days ago suffered numerous humiliating losses in the midterm elections, seemed to confirm that he plans to fire some members of his cabinet, although he refused to be more specific. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has in recent weeks been the center of discussions regarding potential oustings as the majority of Americans have expressed frustration with the Iran war.

"I love my cabinet, I think they're good, but I'll be doing a few changes. I don't want to mention who," he told the interviewer.

The president has previously hinted that he blames Hegseth for the political fallout of the war he started in late February, which has sent fuel prices and the cost of living skyrocketing.

Democrats were attempting to impeach Hegseth prior to the election, and with their sizable majority in both chambers, the chances of an impeachment attempt could rise.

Trump has maintained that he plans to keep Hegseth on for the time being

Hegseth's removal from office has been pledged by other Democrats on the Armed Services Committee.

“I’m going after Pete Hegseth,” Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colorado, a former U.S. Army officer, said Nov. 4. “I’m going to be relentless night and day to get him out of the Pentagon and to restore the culture of respect and diversity within our military.”

Some members of Hegseth's own political party are already putting pressure on him. Some Republican lawmakers are demanding that he be removed during the lame-duck session.

“Pete Hegseth has a reckoning,” Sen. Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, said.

Vice President JD Vance is blaming the war for the GOP defeat. "The reason we lost is the war," he said in a lengthy post on X Wednesday morning.

According to CBS News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, is being considered as a potential successor to Hegseth. The source claimed that DeSantis could be confirmed by the Senate during the lame-duck period and then assume the position after his term as governor expires on January 5.

When reporters asked Trump on Wednesday afternoon whether he was thinking about removing Hegseth, he responded, "No, I think he's doing a very good job."

Additionally, the president was asked whether he would approve of Hegseth being named to the position that Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn will depart when she becomes governor.

"I actually think he'd be very popular if he did that, but I haven't heard that at all," President Trump said.
