A Utah woman detailed how she dealt with a scammer. Laura (laura.bro6) shared a video on TikTok in which she revealed that someone tried to pose as a Utah County Sheriff and claimed there was a warrant for her arrest.
The caption accompanying Laura’s post on TikTok read, “You know it’s getting close to the holidays when you keep getting scammers.”
The TikToker began the video mentioning that a couple of weeks ago, she got a phone call from the Utah County Sheriff’s Department. She mentioned, “I have this feature on my phone that they have to state their name and the reason they’re calling.”
Caller allegedly claimed there was an arrest warrant for the TikToker
When she saw Utah County Sheriff’s Office flashing on the screen, the TikToker decided to answer the call. The person claimed to be Utah County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Simon Jackson.
“I answered the phone, and this sheriff says to me, ‘Is this Laura?’ A surprise? I’m like, yeah, that’s me.”
“Did you know that you were supposed to be in court yesterday for a high profile like case?” the person on the other end of the call asked her. When the woman said she wasn’t aware, he kept asking her to confirm her address.
After confirming the woman’s address, the man on the phone said, ” It shows that it was delivered, and you failed to show up for court. So now there is a warrant out for your arrest.”
TikToker says the jury duty claim sparked concern
The man on the phone continued to convince the TikToker by sharing his badge number and saying the woman needed to report to the Utah County Sheriff’s Department that day.
“And then it dawned on me that I had just done jury duty a year ago,” the TikToker said, adding that she is not required to do it again for at least the next 3-4 years and that’s when she realized that the man was lying.

“This feels like this is a scam,” Laura said, after which the man repeatedly threatened to detain her. When the woman told the person on call she was looking forward to it, the man on the line hung up.
After the call ended, the man sent Laura a warrant, and she responded with an AI-generated photo of her mugshot, which the TikToker admitted she shouldn’t have done.
“After I hung up the phone, this guy had the audacity to text me the warrant that’s out for my arrest. But I later just sent him an AI photo of me getting arrested, which I probably shouldn’t have done either,” she added in the TikTok.
She concluded the video by reminding viewers to stay aware of such scams. “Just so you know, that is a scam that is going around, and just be safe out there,” she said, concluding the video.
Social media users share similar scam encounters
In the comments section, one social media user wrote, “They don’t arrest you for missing jury duty.” Another user alleged, “Same guy did this to me. I called his bluff.”
Another commenter added that they went through a similar ordeal, writing, “This happened to me! He was soo mean! Said I had to pay 8k or get arrested.” Another comment on the viral post read, “I’ve practiced law for over 18+ years and never once saw a judge issue a warrant for a juror.”
